…..Accords women pride of place in his legislative agenda.
Hon. Unyime Idem, Member Representing Ukanafun/Oruk Anam Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, has promised his constituents a robust representation on the floor of the House of Representatives stating that his four-year stay in the National Assembly will bring prosperity, development and inclusivity. He made this promise while playing host to cross section of Akwa Ibom Female leaders in his office at the National Assembly Complex, Abuja.
While thanking the female leaders for finding time to visit him, Hon. Idem noted that women are very critical to the making of the family and development of any nation. He noted that any nation that neglects the contributions of women does so at its own peril. He called on government at all levels to give women their pride of place in the scheme of things especially as it concerns elective and appointive positions. He reiterated his commitment towards giving his constituents a robust representation and also reach out to the people with life touching projects and various forms of empowerment programs.
The Vice Chairman House Committee on Communications promised to give special recognition to women in his legislative agenda stating that it was in line with 35% Affirmative action for women. He said he will endeavor to sponsor and support bills and motions that will promote the welfare of women. Hon. Idem implored the women leaders to always spread the message of peace and progress in their spheres of influence that will bring about the desired development in the Country.
Speaking on behalf of the delegation, Lady Ime Kieran, wife of the Leader of Akwa Ibom Sttae House of Assembly appreciated the Lawmaker for hosting them and for making them proud in his first one month of his legislative engagements. She particularly praised the Federal Lawmaker for moving the all-important the motion on the need to Revamp the Nigeria Institute for Oil Palm Research (NIFOR), Oruk Anam Substation.
Lady Ime stated that this move will revive the over 70 year old Federal agency, revamp agricultural activities in the zone, enhance food security and generate employment. She urged the Lawmaker to keep the flag of performance flying as to whom much is given, much is expected.
The Akwa Ibom Female Leaders which comprised of Local Government Council Vice Chairmen, wives of Local Government Chairmen, wives of their Deputies and led by the wife of the Leader, Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Lady Ime Udo Kieran were in Abuja to attend a workshop facilitated by the wife of Akwa Ibom State Governor, Mrs. Martha Udom Emmanuel.
