A lot of people have called my line over the days to possibly ascertain my stand on the Abak five matchet drill saga that has taken over the social Media platform for about a week now.
While I strived not to utter a word concerning the issue, I believe it’s pertinent I state my stand publicly for posterity’s sake and to also avoid the misinterpretations of my silence by some sycophants. I’ll try to be very sincere with myself and I’ll also strive to express myself just the way I feel in the inside.
Let it be known that:
1- I may not know Barr. Imoh Williams in person, where he comes from and what he’s made of, but I can state without any regret that he is innocent. You can force me to believe that he’s an arrogant and proud type, but you can’t possibly force me into believing he would reduce himself to the level of sending thugs after a fellow citizen because of his activitism on the social media space.
In this part of the world, criticizing, and lampooning public office holders has become a norm, should I say a tradition that’s Nationally accepted. Mr. Chairman knowing this wouldn’t have gone against this Nationally embraced tradition. He’s innocent and innocent of that crime
2- When I placed my eye on the video, and possibly got to know that the scenario occurred at the Council Secretariat, I was infuriated. I asked questions why the scenario occurred in such a place but no one was around to intervene. This the question that’s still running in my mind. But at the other hand, let’s get our minds to the happenings in our state between 2007-2015. People who were considered as Akpabio’s antagonists were massacred on daily basis even without the then governor’s knowledge. The then governor, Senator. Akpabio had lamented occasionally of his innocence, and we believed. In 2015 when the then governor was aspiring to be Senator, Elder Ukpanah revolted openly against his aspiration, maintaining that it wasn’t right yet for Essien Udim/Ikot Ekpene/Obot Akara Federal Constituency to produce an occupant of the Senatorial Seat. The following day, the man was killed in his sitting room and till date, we believe Akpabio is innocent of that crime because he swore so. How then is it so impossible for the APC and some other people in the State to believe that Barr. Imoh Williams is innocent of this allegation? If we can’t believe he’s innocent, that means Sen. Akpabio is also guilty of all the killings perpetuated in the State from 2007 to 2015.
Just like Akpabio’s diehard supporters were killing so as to avoid losing the bread they got from the then governor, Godswill Alele who was the Protocol Officer to the Chairman was in that same vain trying to protect his source of livelihood and I understand it vividly. It takes loyalty and passion to do that, but at other hand, it’s only one who’s blessed with the courage to do more nonsense can nurture that in his heart, talkmore of venturing into such. I condemn this rascality and I’m so saddened that the Chairman is suffering from the sin of his subordinate. This is where the law term “Respondeat superior” coming into play. In Politics, we engage into dialogue with our antagonists. We present juicy offers to see how we could draw them to our sides, and not to unleash mayhem on them in the name of proving a point. If this protocol had done this when he saw the post on Abraham’s timeline, I believe the Chairman would have settled this debt, and also promote him. At times we unknowingly cause problems to ourselves and bosses.
3- Similar scenario had occurred in same Local Government Area in 2010 when late Rt. Hon. Atuekong Aniediabasi Stephen Udo was Chairman, but was the case of defection.
The then Chairman of Council after being deprived the Party’s State House of Assembly ticket had defected to the then Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN alongside five Councillors. Senator Akpabio who was also running for his re-election against Senator John James Akpanudoedeghe had summoned the six remaining Councillors, pleaded that the Council Chairman be impeached. The Councillors went back, sat down and impeached their Chairman which automatically, Hon. Joseph Ikpaisong Inyang who was the Vice Chairman took over as the Ag. Council Chairman. The Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly Members were only playing an advisory role to endeavor there’s no problem in the LGA. In view of the current leadership of the Local Government Area, there’s no way the Legislatures would have sat to deliberate on the matter. The Councillors have stated their stand on the matter. They’ve maintained that they’re in tandem with the State House of Assembly’s decision, and I believe if they were to convene and possibly deliberate on the matter, they would have taken same decision. They’re in support of the decision because there was no MAZE for them to hold a sitting.
4- The Press Release by the Police Public Relation Officer I saw yesterday stated emphatically that the incident transpired about three months ago, and that the case file was closed by Mr. Abraham. The same Mr. Abraham who was given five matchet drill had claimed his phone and 50,000 were stolen prior to the process of his matchet drilling. A new phone equivalent to his acclaimed old phone, the 50,000 he claimed was stolen and the 75,000 the Chairman was owing him were all paid to him in cash.
The reawakening of this dead case is something I’m yet understand. From my point of view, I can conclude that Mr. Abraham coming out with this video or instructing some other person to repost the video on facebook was a strategy staged in pulling down the Chairman. Maybe they had tried to use the video as an avenue of extorting some money from the Chairman, but the Chairman refused to be cowed with it, thinking he had settled the case with the police.
One thing is certain. You may cause a man’s fall today, but your fall or that of your children might be more catastrophic than that of our victim.
5- I express my dissatisfaction on that act of rascality unleashed on Mr. Abraham by Godswill Alele and his cohort. Their act of taking such an unholy exercise to the Council Secretariat in the absent of all is an act of DESECRATION. They’ve desecrated the Council Secretariat and I believe outside the punishment which would be awarded them by Law, the Elders of Abak would have to convene to determine their fate. I also express my dissatisfaction with the Chairman for accepting to owe the poor Abraham for months till when it was taken to the media space. If his debt was paid as at when due, no one would have known of it and this wouldn’t have transpired. Even if there was no money to settle this debt, courtesy demand you pick his calls to explain things to him, and not to incessantly bounce his calls and also order him out of your office on different occasions. It is well!
While thanking His Excellency the governor and the leadership of the 7th Assembly for intervening on this matter on our behalf, I call on the teeming supporters of Mr. Chairman to remain loyal to the Leadership of the State. I also assure them that Barr. Imoh Williams will be vindicated and reinstated soon. This should be a lesson to all. Let’s follow the footsteps of Larnister who always pays his debt as at when due to avoid unforeseen controversies.
