Despite defecting to his political party (APC) for the very first time, such gesture would have accorded a warm embrace by the President, but unfortunately, Muhammadu Buhari decided to welcome Sen. Godswill Akpabio with “Long spoon” as seen in the picture below.
It is unusual to see a guest (Akpabio) who by virtue of his standing in the Senate (as well as his decision to join President political party) should have been welcomed in a refined air conditioned parlour, but President Buhari preferred veranda as the best place to hail Sen. Godswill Obot Akpabio.
Buhari may have recalled the role he played towards the enthronement of Saraki (as Senate president)who later turned out to be thorn in the flesh of the Federal government and APC.
Buhari may have reminisce of uncountable unprinted words he doled out to him during his presidential campaign in 2015.
He may have remembered how he accused him of being illiterate , old and what have you. I am sure, Buhari had recalled the number of votes he allocated to him from Akwa Ibom in 2015.
So many things may have ran through the mind of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria before he could adopt the “Long spoon theory” of welcoming his August visitor.
While watching this clip on Channels TV yesterday, it just occurred to me that, Akpabio has been ridiculed in the international scene.
So Akpabio has reached a point where the President can’t receive him in a conducive environment like he did to footballers.
Even when Wike and other governors went to visit Buhari in London, they received a better treatment than this….no water, no table, no drink, no chair, the handshake sef was reluctant one.
…and This reminds me of the saying, “When you want to eat with your enemy, use long spoon”.
I see APC using brand new Stainless Long Spoon on Akpabio.
