As the 2019 general election draws near, Chairman of the Akwa Ibom State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Obong Paul Ekpo, has reiterated the party’s resolve to conduct free, fair and credible primaries.
Obong Ekpo made this known on Wednesday at the party secretariat when Chapter Chairmen of PDP, Local Government Chairmen, members of the State House of Assembly and National Assembly met with the State leadership of the party.
Speaking, Obong Ekpo, who is also Chairman of PDP State Chairmen, emphasized that “the party is much ready and willing to conduct free, fair and credible primaries in preparation for the forthcoming general elections, assuring that “the party will produce only suitable candidates that will be able to win elections for the party at all levels and positions.”
He used the medium to admonish all party faithfuls to go to their respective Chapters, Wards and Units to carry out their sensitization, mobilization and endorsement rallies in honour of Governor Udom Emmanuel.
Obong Ekpo advised the leadership of the various political groups to be devoted and committed in their campaign and support to our brothers and sisters who have indicated interest and aspiration in the forthcoming elections, maintaining that the party will adhere strictly to zoning as enshrined in the Constitution of the party and that they should eschew fetish practices and vices.
He commended the National and State Assembly members for their proactive engagements in their respective legislative activities, stressing that “there is need for the empowerment of constituents through start-ups grants for businesses in order to help grow our economy.”
Obong Ekpo also commended local government Council Chairmen for the successes recorded so far and announced that the party will embark on sensitization tour of the 31 LGAs, adding that the Party Caucus will be inaugurated during the event in order to stabilize the polity.
He assured that new membership card will also be issued to aid commencement of the registration for new members and revalidation of current members.
According to Obong Ekpo, the tour will commence on friday 29th June in Ikot Abasi Federal Constituency.
