My sympathy and prayers are with the parents, families, and the kidnapped #Chibok and #Dapchi Girls. In this day and age, no parent should ever experience the loss of a child to terror. No girl should ever be afraid of pursuing education and liberty because of insecurity or the fear of being abducted by a terror organization. I wish the Nigerian security forces every success in their efforts to rescue kidnapped girls. May the good Lord protect the girls and grant them a speedy reunion with their families and loved ones.
Nearly four years ago on April 15, 2014, the story of the kidnapping of 219 girls from the dormitories of the Government Secondary School at Chibok, Borno State shocked the world. While well-meaning citizens and governments around the world were concerned for the safety of the girls and agitated for their release, the All Progressives Congress (APC) turned the unfortunate national security incident into a political jackpot. The APC wasted no time to politicize and milked the Chibok incident.
Lai Mohammed and the APC engaged in a social media warfare against the then President and his ruling party in a manner that amounts to political sabotage. The APC characterized the PDP government as too weak, ineffective, too corrupt, too clueless, incompetent and insufficient. In May 2015, the APC rode to power partly on the back of the global #BringBackOurGirls campaign that trademarked the cause of the abducted Chibok Girls.
Fast forward to March 20, 2018, It is now a month that the same terror organization the APC government claimed to have defeated abducted 110 girls from the Science and Technical College in Dapchi, Yobe State. It is so sad to know that Lai Mohammed’s APC is worse than what they branded the Jonathan led administration. The loquacious and all-knowing Lai Mohammed and his fellow APC co-saboteurs are now the faces of a clueless, careless, weak, feckless, impotent, extremely deceitful, incompetent, and overly corrupt federal government.
It is fair to ask, how does Lai Mohammed and the APC face the nation knowing the same terror organization they claimed has been technically defeated just snatched 110 #DapchiGirls in a repeat of the Chibok nightmare? Would the new APC just borrow a page from their 2014 messianic bravado to coax the rest of us the #Dapchi110 did not happen under their watch? Would they man up and return to their common stock of blaming it on sixteen years of PDP misrule? Perhaps, the APC might just blame it on the PDP trying to sabotage and destroy the credibility of their government.
Whatever the new APC may say or do, it is now clear that the APC is not any better than the government and the party it replaced. In fact, there is every indication that the APC and its many variations are worse than the old PDP. Afterall, poverty, insecurity and the national debt profile has increased significantly under the APC administration. If #Chibock219 was a nightmare, #Dapchi110 is a far worse, annoying, and scary deja vu. It reminds us that the nation may have slid into a more profound economic and security hole under the APC administration. May the APC supporters please stand up, troop out to politicize and demand #BringBackOurDapchi110Girls just like they did in 2014 and 2015?
