A socio-political group in the state, Uyo Conscience has reacted to the report making the rounds that Uyo Senatorial District may wait till 2027 should the ongoing negotiations ahead of 2019 governorship election between the managing director of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, Obong Nsima Ekere and Senator James Akpanudoedehe sails through.
According to an earlier report, in an attempt to find a lasting solution to the lingering crisis in the All Progressives Congress, APC, Akwa Ibom State, the national leadership of the party held a meeting where the duo of Nsima Ekere and Udoedehe were asked to talk terms.
“It is no longer news that the APC intends to hand the governorship ticket to Nsima Ekere in 2019 but the party considers Udoedehe’s continuous antagonism as a serious threat to the plan and has showed willingness to negotiate.
“According to our source, at the meeting, Udoedehe said that he will only agree for Nsima Ekere to fly the party’s flag in 2019 if his terms are met. “Among other demands, Udoedehe said that he must be given the ticket to contest for Uyo Senatorial District in 2019, five House of Assembly slots in Uyo Senatorial District, two House of Assembly slots each in Eket and Ikot Ekpene Senatorial Districts and Uyo Federal House slot”, the source said.
“Udoedehe, who was also in Abuja to attend the call to bar of his daughter, Barr. Abasiodiong James Akpanudoedehe, further demanded that Nsima Ekere must agree to fund his (Udoedehe) senatorial district election and those of his key men who will be contesting elections also in 2019.
“The source further disclosed that after due considerations, the national leaders agreed to Udoedehe’s terms, but however, the meeting, which went on peacefully, took a different shape when Nsima Ekere disclosed that he will only fund Udoedehe’s election on the condition that he (Ekere) will be allowed to run for a second term, adding that he will in turn ensure that Uyo Senatorial District produces the governor in 2027”, a part of the report reads.
Reacting to the report, the international president of Uyo Conscience, Comrade Usenobong Eberefiak warned in strong terms that Uyo Senatorial District will not wait for almost 20years to produce a governor, saying that such plot to malign and marginalize Uyo Senatorial District will never work.
Eberefiak noted that both Nsima Ekere and Udoedehe are well known for their greed and desperation and that anybody who takes them seriously is only doing so at his or her own peril, adding that APC has been a complete failure in Akwa Ibom state because of it parades dishonest people as leaders and is always fronting candidates without integrity during elections.
“That is arrant nonsense. To even insinuate that Uyo may wait till 2027, which will make it complete 20 years since an Uyo man in the person of Obong Victor Attah left power, is an insult on the people of Uyo Senatorial Distrct. And any son or daughter of Uyo that agrees to such evil plot is a traitor and must be treated as such. Nsima Ekere and Udoedehe are greedy and desperate politicians and we know them very well.
“If I may even ask, how is the APC even going to win the 2019 governorship election in Akwa Ibom state? The local government elections were conducted recently and with all the federal might they bragged of, they could not win even one councillorship seat. A party with Nsima Ekere and Udoedehe as point men is not serious at all. Look at them. From one crisis to another. Is that a political party that can win election in Akwa Ibom state? Never”, he said.
