I am sure you do know the importance of women in life and have noticed also, that women matters have become topics at religious gatherings, motor parks, palmy joints, markets and even on the Social Media. Everyone pontificates on how women aren’t living up to the expectations as sacrificing mothers, loyal employees and patient wives. Their dressings and culinary expertise have for days now been trending on SocialMedia. The attention on women is suffocating, to say the least but bearing awesome results!
While we don’t ever feel like allowing women some space from school, the male gender have been over pampered till responsibility, authority, discipline, integrity, hardwork are now missing from their dictionaries. Whatever deceived the male gender into believing it’s infallible and beyond learning and correction is satanic!
It’s common knowledge that the female child is prepared for life and leadership right from birth. Right from the cradle, she’s constantly reminded that she’s a woman and must be strong to survive,. She must never forget this fact, while his brother is constantly radicalised into believing he owns the world. “Without labouring, just pick whatever you want. It is your privilege.” Thus his manhood and curiosity, creativity, courage and guts are stripped from childhood. They strut the earth with an offending sense of entitlement.
Sons are told real men don’t cry and don’t ask much questions. We’re told real men bully their way through life. The daughter is sent to the kitchen while the son is sold the dummy that he should join daddy at the parlour for games! Where has that led us?
Tomorrow’s husbands learnt from time that women are lesser beings and could be treated with the worst indignities. “Men own the world, abi?” Tomorrow’s leaders are taught to dodge responsibilities and trade blames. Tomorrow’s leaders are taught quite early, that leaders must go on long convoys and must be adept at lying. Leaders are spoilt while they still suck.
“Women are better leaders,” you no dey hear? But why wouldn’t they be, when men created disparities that placed women at a disadvantaged position? Women were made stronger by the adversities they face!
The statistics is frightening! How many homes are sustained by women while the men play second fiddle and indulge in foolishness! You cannot command your household but you kill to command the society! It’s neither a coincidence that women have taken over the world stage while the men are pampered to sleep.
Though a woman may resist your overbearing attitude when you try to enforce your hypocrisy but she’s taking down the notes. You treat her like a maid, she adjusts quickly and takes her pound of flesh, ultimately. She turns a fool and plans her way through, hitting at your weakest!
It is time we focus our every pint of blood, sack of energy on advising and teaching the men. Let’s take our eyes off the women for some while and focus on the men!
Sons should be taught the basics: cooking, sweeping, putting the house in order, washing etc. Sons should be taught to be compassionate and humble. Sons should be taught civility and hospitality. Babies should be left in the care of sons too. A critical mass of humanity is missing from the male gender and it’s wrong! The insensitivity and arrogance on the path of Nigerian leaders can be linked to a lack of proper home training and familiarization with toughness from childhood!
The pulpits, print and electronic media and others should be drafted for this awesome reorientation business.
