Dear colleagues in the Akwa Ibom State chapter of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, I have observed in the last one week that many issues concerning our union have been brought to social media against the latest order by the union’s President forbidding such actions.
I have noted that members of the union, even her leadership has flouted that order. Hence, I am impelled by circumstance of the plethora of questions raised by my colleagues and friends of the NUJ to consider maximum utilization of this online space to give fair representations to all the camps contesting the August 1 elections in the union.
I have, after deep contemplation decided to do this task because I’ve observed the low some persons and groups have gone in propagating their respective self-agenda ahead of the elections. The way tantrums are flying leaves me with the impression that we are running out of men of honour.
Josiah Gilbert Holland once said that men who love honour are those men that will never lie.
On this platform, which shall be called THE LIGHT OF TRUTH with a hashtag (#NUJ2016THELIGHTOFTRUTH), I shall do three basic things which I think will bring a steady balance and restraint to the inflated self-importance and holiness many aspirants in the elections are claiming.
What this platform will do are:
1. Raise, and amplify questions raised by both camps contesting the forthcoming elections
2. Seek answers from the candidates to critical questions directed at them
3. Investigate and analyse claims of performances, wrongdoings, and any other issue(s) that may come up in this sojourn
I shall utilize the usual early morning and late evening traffic on this platform to initiate this discussion until the REAL TRUTHS are laid before us.
I believe with Ted Cruz, that U.S presidential aspirant that the light of truth is stronger than the darkness of terror. And I shall commit myself to the path of truth in this endeavour. AMEN.
