For some times now I have stayed away from Imo politics,I also stopped commenting on Governor Okorocha’s mal-administration. But following the madness going on in Imo state,I feel I owe it as a duty to lend my voice.
Rochas Okorocha upon assumption of office in 2011 said he would develop Imo to become the Dubai of Nigeria and that the Egyptians Imo people saw then will not be seen again.
Rochas Okorocha started his madness in Owerri by distorting the master plan of the city. You may ask HOW?
Looking at Owerri from all entry points, you would see that Owerri is a city in a valley, hence the developers of Owerri master plan created man-holes at strategic points to help channel water to the OTA MMIRI river but Rochas Okorocha without recourse to the Owerri master plan , closed almost all the man-holes to either construct his CHINA roads or waterfalls thereby leaving the residents of Owerri at the mercy of flood.
Rochas Okorocha upon assumption of office also disbanded the Imo Rural Roads Maintenance Agency ( IRROMA) ,an agency of government created by his predecessor Chief Ikedi Ohakim to create more roads in the rural communities and maintain existing once. After the disbandment,Rochas Okorocha sold most of the equipments while some of them were parked in an empty plot of land behind the new building materials market opposite MAWATECH industry Umuowa,Orlu, thereby rendering the equipment useless and thousands of Imo people jobless.
The same Okorocha went ahead to open up an estimated 16,000 kilometers of roads in almost all the communities in all the 27 LGA’s of the state without asphalting them thereby exposing 16,000 kilometers of earth surface to erosion and as a result, most communities in Imo state today have been suffering from one erosion problem to another.
Rochas Okorocha started many white elephant projects in Owerri: From City gates to City towers, in some cases he built unnecessary pedestrian bridges and SHRINES he called Waterfalls, others are unnecessary roundabouts.
At Assumpter roundabout, he built a tower that looked like that of BABEL two years ago but as write he had demolished it and started a new one at the expense of Imo tax payers.
At Imo state University junction, he built a pedestrian bridge that was never used by anyone for over two years due to its substandard nature but as I write he just demolished it as part of his mass demolition exercise going on in Owerri.
In Orlu, the dualization of the Old Orlu/Owerri road he started in 2011 it’s still uncompleted leaving the residents of Owerre-Ebeiri , Umuowa and neighboring communities at the mercy of flood.
It is said that Sustainable development is meeting the needs of today without compromising that of tomorrow but in the case of Rochas Okorocha, it’s either Rochas Okorocha is destroying the legacies left behind by his predecessors or he is creating more problems by trying to solve one.
In some cases he renovates and changes the names of the legacies of his predecessors to enable him take the credit ( e.g, the General hospital in Owerri built by Chief Achike Udenwa was renovated and changed to Imo specialist hospital with Rochas Okorocha as founder)
Rochas Okorocha has embarked on a mass demolition exercise of houses along major roads in Owerri the state capital and the exercise has rendered many people homeless, property owners have been counting their losses. There has been series of protest in Owerri over his planned demolition of the Eke Ukwu market in Owerri.
I don’t know if I should say Imo deserve the kind of leader they’ve got in Okorocha but what I am sure of is that Rochas Okorocha has really dealt with Imo people.
While Civil servants and pensioners in the state are lamenting over their unpaid salaries and gratuities, unemployment and poverty rate in Imo state on a geometric increase, Rochas Okorocha, his friends and close associates are busy grabbing everything grab-able in Imo state turning the state into a one man business.
WHO WILL RESCUE IMO FROM ROCHAS?
